Vista Caller-ID 1.0.4 BETA Now Available!
Many new features, improvements and enhancements have found their way into the new version of Vista Caller-ID. But given the complexity and ambiguous standards in the PC industry, it is impossible to duplicate the myriad of configurations that exist in the real world.

Beta is the second letter of the Greek alphabet but it is also a way of testing the new version of Vista Caller-ID (1.0.4) under real conditions. Expect problems with betas and you won’t be surprised, but enjoy the thrill of being among the first to use a new bit of software. If you don’t like those kinds of thrills please wait until the software is “out of” beta.
Features at a glance:
- Speech synthesis to verbally announce caller id information
- Configurable talking caller id (prefix, format, voice, volume, repeat)
- Microsoft Outlook synchronization allows contact picture to be displayed in the Caller ID popup window (supported phone number fields: Assistant, Business, Business2, Business Fax, Callback, Car, Company Home, Home2, Home Fax, ISDN, Mobile, Other, Other Fax, Primary, Telex, TTY/TDD)
- Added Apple iPhone ContactPhoto support (if synchronized with Outlook)
- Moving the Vista Caller ID form via glass (allows form to be moved by dragging the glass)
- Changed Vista Caller ID form size to 590×485
- Improved legacy compatibility with Windows XP
- Clear Type support added
- Caller ID History now integrated with Vista Caller-ID application
- Call History allows outlook style grouping and sorting
- Vista-style control enhancements such as command-link buttons for navigation, separation and paging controls
- Dynamic control sizing based on operating system
- Dynamic font management based on operating system (Segoe UI on Vista and Tahoma on XP/2000)
- Vista UAC (User Access Control) compatibility added
- Explicit platform target set to x86 instead of any CPU in effect native 64-bit is NOT supported at this time

Great news on releasing the Beta however I think you forgot to post a link for the download as I cannot find it anywhere.

Looks like I was looking for the link as you were posting it.
Thanks.

Excellent news on the beta release!! Does this version now support Vista MCE? I didn’t see a reference to Vista MCE in the features, and I didn’t have any luck with version 1.0.3 and Vista MCE.
Thanks again for all your efforts on this project!!

The “allow media center plug in” is grey-ed out for me. What do I need to do to enable this functionality, and does it work on extenders?

The “allow media center plugin” is also grey-ed out for me as well.

We would like to thank everyone who has given their feedback to us on the initial beta version of Vista Caller-ID 1.0.4, keep up the feedback, as it helps us to make Vista Caller-ID even better for you.
Unfortunately the Media Center plug-in didn’t make this initial beta release due to a backwards compatibility problem; what you see “grayed out” currently is by design; it is the VCID main form hook where once installed one would be able to control the Media Center plug-in options.
We are planning to release a feature complete beta-refresh and reported bug-fixes in time for the holidays.

I noticed that Vista Caller-ID 1.0.4 Beta is not logging the calls that are received in the History. When I bring it up the History is blank.

Thanks for the Beta release. Works great and am waiting now for the additional features to be implemented in the future release.

Why not make your code open source? I would be interested in helping with the Vista MCE integration.

I tried to install the latest beta version of VISTA Home Premium x64. The error message I received is below. I don\\’t have a modem attached to my computer, however. I am using a Dlink VoIP ATA, which is attached to the computer via a normal CAT 5 netwrok cable.

************** JIT Debugging **************
To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this
application or computer (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging
enabled.
For example:
When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer
rather than be handled by this dialog box.
