Caller-ID Repair Utility Released!

Work is underway on the next version of Vista Caller-ID; slatted to be primarily a bug-fix release, addressing the currently known issues as-well as spawning a number of enhancements and feature additions including the much requested caller id repair.

Meanwhile we have taken the extra step to release the caller id repair technologies as a standalone application to possibly fix incorrectly configured modem caller id settings.

    Great to see someone release a tool like this to help get caller ID working properly. I wish this would have been around when I first tried to get my modem displaying caller id.

    Keep up the great work. Looking forward to the next release.

    It be nice to see this as a client on a network.. Be able to use one copy of Vista Callerid attached to the modem, but other copies can see this and get caller id information sent to the other windows xp/vista/mce/whs machines on the network, and vice versa..

    Kinda silly to have to have one modem per machine running vista caller id

    Also a lot of windows WHS servers dont have modems….

    Alexander,

    Caller-ID for WHS is a nice addition to the Add-In options we have. I look forward to using it.

    I’ve correctly installed the Add-In and Vista Caller-ID on my client machine… fairly sure about that.
    I successfully tested caller-ID configuration with the AT+VCID=1 command to confirm that is the command I need as shown here:
    at
    OK
    at+vcid=1
    OK

    RING

    DATE = 0705
    TIME = 0906
    NMBR = 3524283719
    NAME = PCS Phone FL

    RING

    The incomming call is from my cell with correct number displayed so I know Caller-ID is configured correctly for the modem… as far as Hyperterminal is concerned.

    When I use that code in Caller-ID Repair (Elevated) I get an Exception Error Message:

    “Object reference not set to an instance of an object.”

    The result is I get no data of incomming calls in the WHS Console Page for Vista Caller-ID. I also get no data shown when I right-click and select “History” on the Vista Caller-ID on my client machine (MCE 2005) but using it just as XP Pro since media center TV feed is not connected to the client.

    I’ve also gone to modem properties and place the AT+VCID=1 command in additional initialization commands, but no help.

    Is there a manual way I can configure my modem to set up caller ID since I now know the command for doing so? Or am I just not using your repair procedure correctly?

    Best regards… and thanks for working with the WHS community.

    George

    how can i test my modem when they discontinued Hyperterminal unless i pay for it and im on vista

  7. Admin Says:

    Unfortunately the free personal use download of HyperTerminal Private Edition has been discontinued by them; but it appears to be still available here:
    ftp://www.hilgraeve.com/htpe/
    Look for: htpe63.exe

  8. Steven Says:

    Can we configure vista callerid to work with a serial port instead of a modem. We use hyper terminal to view caller id info and vista callerid looks like a much better interface.

    Works great on my media center. I found something a bit annoying on the call log. The sort order is working a bit strange when sorting by date. It actually sort by the day, instead of the whole date. So it gives:

    30/06
    29/06
    27/06

    23/07
    22/07

    Apart from that small problem, works great!

    This is very exciting software. I installed the latest release with no errors.
    When a call is received, it does log the call in the history log. all information is correct. However, the screen popup does not display.
    I have looked & looked and I can find nothing to indicate this should not work.

    The MCE (VMC) plug also does not work but again, the call is logged in history. Because the main Vista app does not show a screen popup, I would not expect the Media center popup to work. It does show that the app is loaded when launching media center.

    I am running Vista Home Premium SP1. Any thoughts or advice?

    In the current release there is a Media Center Add-in not working bug for some users - this will be fixed with 1.0.8 in about 1 week’s time as soon as Grid Junction is out of the door.

    I’m using the caller ID on Vista 64bit. Thanks for a great program! I’ve run into an issue. Regardless of “Display top-most” setting, the popup is always covered by other windows, which are not set to be always on top (like Firefox). This is v.1.0.7.0. I also have a request. I checked and in the HyperTerminal I can see caller ID info for call waiting caller ID. The only difference is that there’s no RING. Could that be implemented in a future version? I know Extended TAPI can work with call waiting. I have a MultiModem-ZPX-V92 (a Lucent-based [Venus?] non-winmodem) and my custom init string is +VCID=1;+PCW=0;+PMH=0
